This blog has been idle for many a long year and i intend to reverse that, in fact I had almost forgotten that i had even made this account. and now that i see it again, i see that the style, layout and title are borderline cringeworthy. my art may not have changed much since 2010, but i have changed a lot as a person, and the title and style of the blog are now cringeworthy to me.

unfortunately i seldom finish my work and the vast majority of what i produce is small sketches and color studies.  although they are still valuable in the process,  it is frustrating that i lack the drive and vision to see a work through to the end, but i also tend to get hung up on research, doing excessive sketches, perhaps, if such a thing is possible, and re-doing things over and over.   2012 was the last time i made a piece that i would truly consider a finished composition. As you can see, my favorite subjects to depict are still fantasy people, and fantasy animals, and occasionally real animals as well, though i draw real people much less frequently, if at all.

at any rate, here are some small teasers of things ive done in the last few months.  in one respect, the title of this blog is still accurate as my medium of choice has not changed.  alcohol inks and illustration markers remain my favorite tool.

thank you for reading :)

Turnaround

My creativity has been on an upward trend lately. And of course, because the school year is just starting up again, things are probably going to go south fast as projects start picking up.

no major WIPs to post this time, partly because I've finally started to finish some of my long standing projects, and also because I've gone back to the "research and development phase of art making....lots of brainstorming, practice drawings of my characters, working on costume and creature designs etc.

Art for Fun's sake

90% of what I draw is just for fun, and why not, art is fun! Since college began, i've gotten out of that mode of thinking; I'm always getting these ideas for series that I can do for my classes, and I seldom draw anymore unless it somehow works into the big picture. its quite a sad state to be it.
anyway, here's a couple things that are unfinished (naturally!) but are just exercises in fun! shown in chronological order, they span something on the order of 2006 to present. the reasons for being unfinished are all the same reasons you've heard before, but these aren't inteded to be grand pieces so lack of foresight isn't really the issue. although in some cases, the drawings are missing, and I would finish them if only they could be located!

I've said it before and I'll say it again....all these images are mine. if you want to use them, just ask! I'm a very agreeable person

I'll finish it someday...

another of my long-standing works in progress...

I swear to god, I usually work faster than this: a few days to a week is usually all that I need to finish an 8.5 x 11 marker drawing....but every so often, a beast like this rears its ugly head (pun intended). Generally, such a stall results from dwindling supplies, and dwindling funds to replenish such supplies.

well, anyway, here we have a Lakelord, preparing to raise hell on both a terrestrial and celestial level.

WIPping it into Shape

Hooray! i finally got some of my works in progress up. Heavy influence from mayan mythology in both of these. the monkey has so many problems with it, but I do love it so much, so I will finish it. The drawing of Tlaloc i really want to take my time with and get it right.

and one more! not my longest standing WIP, but its getting there.
I started this almost exactly 2 years ago, and the last time i did any work on it was October of '09. I hope to finish it soon! but I'm still deciding on some of the colours/ still saving up money for the colours I need. Also, this is a diptych. I'm only posting half of it now. look forward to seeing the completed piece in the future!

as always, these images are copyright to Christy Domino. I don't know why you'd want to use them, but if you do just ASK!!!

addicted to art fumes

i just realized that my favourite mediums to use, Markers and Oil paint, are some of the most noxious known to art. I think only printmaking has more volatile substances at its disposal.

anyway it just occurred to me that perhaps the only reason I'm drawing every spare minute I get is because I'm jonesing for marker fumes.

I promise I'll post some WIPs soon

*sniiiiif*

with every step I take, the destination takes another

any diversion is a sweet one, especially when there's 2 self portraits due tomorrow!

and a blog is quite a diversion indeed. I decided to come here to follow my favourite artists, and hopefully glean some tips for my own work.
